Lightbulb b1 to work permit

I have been out of staus since May and was considering marrying my boyfriend. However I decided against this option.

I now have a company keen to employ me and go through the work permit process. I have an Imformation Systems degree which might be in my favour.

My questions are
1) Do I have to lave the country to apply for the work permit if I am out of status but within 180 days (for another 3 weeks)

2) Even if I apply from within the country, before the 180 day "grace period" should I leave within 180 days anyway?

3) If I leave and do not get my passport stamped and then return on a visa waiver will it help my work visa application? ie will it look like I was never out of staus and they had simply forgotten to stamp my passport on exit.

4) Is it easier to apply for a owkr permit from Canada or the UK?

Argh. Whats the best way to play this? Help.
