Just got my insurance renewal - it's $500.12 for just six months for a 4 year old car that's worth about $6000. That's the entire value of the car in six years. Or less, if you assume the car will be pretty much worthless in six years' time.

For anyone moving from UK to USA and wondering how much it'll cost to insure their car, just look at what you've probably been paying to insure your Lamborghini collection in the UK for the past twenty or so years, add all those years' payments together and that might just about approach what you'll be paying for an old banger for six months here. Insurance is never quoted per year here - the figures would make even the Donald Trumps of the world cry.:banghead:

I just checked Geico and Progressive - I could opt to go with one of them and get LESS coverage for a frankly taking-the-piss $1600 per year! (Sorry - $800 per 6 months!)

I guess you are forgetting about the liability component of that coverage. :sneaky:

I guess as with the UK rates vary according to age, vehicle, location etc.I have a quote for insurance in Missouri and it's pretty much the same as I pay in the UK. Quote was from State Farm.

So the missus and I have bought a car. Just waiting for it to be shipped. Got a good quote from Geico online but they want to send me some form to fill in for their underwriters before we can get cover.

Does anyone know of an insurer who are quicker to set things up or know if I can get temporary cover anywhere (google so far fruitless)? Anyone had any experiences of things moving quicker if you go into a retail location rather than doing it online/over the phone?

In Florida in case that makes any difference.

We are going with AIG as mentioned throughout this thread, have you tried them?

We are with some independent broker who placed our insurance in Florida. No clue who. That is the OH's job. Tried Geico for a quote. Not only were they more expensive, but they discovered something even I didn't know. My driving privileges were suspended in New York State because of a speeding fine I forgot to pay more than 25 years ago. Well, I forgot because I was living in Canada. I drive slowly through NY when I go to Canada now. :D

I'm using State Farm. My girlfriend is with them as well, as we'll be living together they done a combined deal for our vehicles and the house. I've just bought a brand new pick up, full coverage is $63 a month.
It seems to be well worth going with one company for everything you get much better deals.

We have just had a quote by the same insurance company we use to insure our home. The deductibles are $500 and the policy limits are high. For a 2011 Enclave I got a 12 month premium of $1500 for me and the wife. This is for Florida on an Out of Country license option.

Mine is on a new Ford F150 FX4 Ecoboost. We're in Missouri, semi-rural area.

I'm curious, what is your liability, personal liability and property damage coverage?

All I can find for AIG is their corporate website and a life insurance product. Travguard seems to be travel insurance.

Unless AIG is now 21st Century Insurance? In which case they are useless. Their website doesn't even work yet. But I appreciate the help.

Anyone who has any leads for getting quick and easy car insurance still would be much appreciated :)
