Default Article: Crooks flashing fake badges

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-fake08.html

I very much doubt this problem is limited to Chicago.

The question is, how do you know if it's a real cop or not?

Flashing lights doesn't make them a cop
A gun doesn't make them a cop
A badge doesn't make them a cop
A uniform doesn't make them a cop

It happens - although rarely - in the UK. We nicked one scumbag who'd been using a fake warrant card and badge to enter old peoples homes back in blighty a few years ago. No idea what the penalty here is for impersonating a police officer but in the UK its a pretty hefty sentence, since it undermines the publics' trust of the police.

The fake ones generally have a very poor demeanour and zero people skills.

I wouldn't stop here for a cop unless it was a marked car. Thats probably going to get me done for evading arrest or something, but thats how it is.
