Does this mean that we could go down to the INS office
on Saturday morning to inquire about an overdue EAD or AP, for example? I'm guessing the same "get there before the crack of dawn" strategy would apply if this were so? You didn't happen to see when they are open on Saturday, did you? (opening and closing time for info requests)

I did respond - maybe my post got lost! What I basically said was I thought there was
a date coming up soon that this stopped at but the info. is posted on their front
door so if you get the chance to wander by you should be able to see it.

Also, too late now, but I also suggested if Nicola could get off work for the morning
she went down today (Wednesday) since that's when they do EADs and they seemed used
to getting referrals on Wednesdays for overdue applications.

We mailed a letter to Arlington last Wednesday asking them for the status, perhaps if it was misplaced this will prompt them to look for it and mail us an interview date?
Since we mailed it last Wednesday perhaps they will have looked at it by today and will send us something. I'm thinking that if we don't get something by the end of the week we'll have to go on down there, I was just hoping that a Saturday might be an option for us.

I am just starting a I-130/I-485 process. I did not have the I-765 signature card
that is mentioned in the I-765 documentation so I decided to visit the Arlington INS
office on a Saturday morning.

The people at the metal detector where very nice and as soon as my wife and I got
throught the detector a woman asked what we wanted. I told her and she responded that
I would get it later in the process and send the forms in without it.

Now this lady did not identify herself, had no badge, was just standing in the lobby
waiting for an elevator. I got a confused look on my face and started to say that I
was a little concerned that what she was saying did not match what I had read. She
cut of my confusion with a curt statement that there was nothing else to discuss and
she walked away. I felt like I had to leave because if I stayed and tried to talk to
someone else I would be insulting her.

This was my first visit to the INS office and let me very uneasy.

She was correct. Most INS offices do not require this card, and the reason is
that they send you a letter to come in and get the card and you sign it when you
are there.

I've now seen / met a lot of people at INS in Arlington. The first encounter tends
to bring out the short sharp answer that can appear rude and abrupt. Having seen
many many people ask them really stupid questions I can see why that is. I have also
seen some of these officers revert to "humanity" when faced with a real problem and
really try to work things out. You got the curt response because you did not have a
problem; hopefully you'll never need to see their human side because you won't have
any problems!
