yep and city-data also has a big forum where you can ask peoples opinion on those unis!

Thanks bob will look at at that, done all the other research we can campus, volleyball, e mailed team members,academics which they all cover the degrees she wants to do in some form or another its so hard to make the right choice

It may sound silly but Google Street Map is actually quite helpful in situations like this. You can see the area 'around' the school and judge from the housing quality, retail options, etc near the campus. Just about every street in most cities in the US are available and even some campus (filmed from a camera bicycle) are online.
For example, Richmond's campus is very urban in the heart of the city, whereas McNeese State is a bit rural looking. Get a bit of a rundown just by 'virtually' touring the areas. Might help.
Also all US universities have to report their crime data annually to the government. You can search for this crime data to get an idea of the safety on each campus:
http://ope.ed.gov/security/
