My son is trying to work out cheapest way of shipping his personal effects to US (mainly DVDs, PC games, clothes etc).

We've already looked at FedEx, Ups etc and air fireight is too expensive. We're going to contact 3 international shipping companies for sea freight, but wondered if anyone has any ball park figures? eg 10 boxes roughly this size cost £xxx

He's got rid of loads of stuff already and is now wondering how much he can actually afford to take with him.

If we don't sort this out, I can see that his Dad & I will be taking an extra suitcase each full of his belongings every time we visit him & his wife!!

Can't you chip in for him? it can't be that much to air freight a few clothes and games

Try UPakWeShip. They have mixed reviews, but got our stuff safely from the UK to US in 2010, and we've just shipped everything back in the opposite direction (so fingers crossed that'll work out equally well).

15 x 50lb boxes (3 cubic feet each) cost us $860 from LA to London. Takes 6-8 weeks.

Almost any international mover/ shipper will take a few boxes and add them to a shared container. When we emigrated our stuff took about 1,000cuft of an 1,100cuft "half" freight container. The rest of the space was taken up by stuff belonging to 6-8 other people, so it can only have a very few boxes each.

We used AllFreight, based in Addlestone, Surrey.

Bob

Box it up into small parcels and ship it in the regular post would be pretty cheap, but anything from 6-12 weeks.

Don't have that option from the US end though.
