Applying for jobs in the US
Obviously Im British. Am looking to move to the US and have a 2 degrees (under and post grad), relevant certifications and experience in my line of work (IT consultant). Ive had a look around this site and have read somewhere that applying for jobs on the net is pretty much useless as the recruiters in the US dont pay much attention to applicants from outside of the US.
I have also tried looking for jobs on the net and there is not much out in Arizona, where I actually want to move to. I am sure its not because there are no jobs out there ... but maybe I am just going about this all the wrong way, as the process may differ. Can anyone please advise ? Thanks |

What is your research on that.... Looks like a H1B Visa to me ... nothing else seems to be relevant. But yeh, Im concentrating on applying for jobs first ... thats whats most important as nothing else will come without that! |

I gather he meant join a multinational in the UK first, then apply for intra-company transfer (L1 visa) to the US.

Joining a multinational will not have any guarantee I can move internally .... especially into Arizona which is what I want to do. |

But there is no guarantee when it comes to any kinds of VISA to US. Mind you, employer will have to spend thousands of $ to get your visa through. You are right in one area though, assuming you have the super skills this year may be the best to get H1B and I am not saying it’s safe i.e. your company will be fine but purely from numerical view it has never been easier in getting H1B. Finding a sponsor has been tougher than ever before though……. |

Check out dice.com and theladders.com.
You're up against some steep competition in IT as many of the current H1-B visa holders come from the top programs in China and India, and do all that is in their power to push their classmates and former colleagues into jobs in this space. Kind of an old boys network helping them through the process. Much of the new spending on cybersecurity now is government-related, with areas like Maryland (Annapolis / Fort Meade) seeing massive growth in new high tech security companies. However, these type of jobs would require government security clearance, which you will not be able to obtain (long story). |
