My husband applied for his file as his previous employer cooked up some story about never having signed and submitted the H1-B so we engaged a litigation attorney to sort it out. I believe it took about 6 weeks to get the file on disc. It's a copy of everything submitted by you or your representatives.

Interesting, so I don't see the point in most people wanting to see it. Your case, yes, because you had to prove something.

I think it is more for use by genealogy fanatics, why else would they give access to records of dead people. This country is full of descendants of immigrants and some people go hunting for their roots. The same argument applies to military records, 99% of people never need access for their own needs, but many are requested by people looking for family history. I only needed mine for immigration purposes , otherwise I would never have requested them
