Default AOS fingerprint fee mix up...

Hey all,
This is frustrating...I sent in my AOS application to Dallas INS on May 17. I sent them seperate checks for everything -$255 for the I-485, $120 for the EAD, $110 for advance parole, and $50 for the fingerprinting fee. Anyway, a few weeks pass and I get a letter back with "No fingerprinting fee required for K1. Thanks, INS" hand written on it, and my $50 money order back.
A few days ago I got another letter requesting the $50 fee for fingerprints!!!!! Wtf? Grrrrrrr!!!
Other than obviously sending them another check, does anyone have any advice? On the letter it says my I-765 and I-131 applications cannot be adjucated until this is corrected. I have my EAD appointment on July 17, and I'm hoping this won't affect that, since I guess my main application is now considered deficient?
I still have the letter where they returned the $50...should I send them a copy of this, together with a short letter explaining what happened?
I guess I should look on the bright side that at least they are doing something with the application (other than starting a game of check ping-pong). Any advice about the least time consuming way to fix this would be way appreciated!!!!
Thanks in advance (and for all past advice),

-Harry

Their incompetency grows even bigger. The first thing, though, is that I take it you
were adjusting from a K-1 visa? In that case I would have filed in person and they
should have done your interview that day and you would probably have left as a
permanent resident. You might want to take a trip there to see if you can get the
whole thing sorted out and hope that they'll insta-AOS you.

Andy.

Andy re: Dallas and Instant AOS

Dallas will accept walk-ins for adjustment from K-1 and will interview the same day; however, they will NOT place the I-551 stamp in their passport that same day. Dallas has for a quite a few months now stopped the practice as they wait for the brown envelope to be delivered to their offices before they will give final approval.

They will give the EAD the same day though.

Rete and Andy,
I actually did visit Dallas INS to see if I could file in person right after we got married. I had heard they had stopped doing instant AOS, but I figured all I had to lose was some achy bones from the concrete. Also, the INS guy at the airport (in secondary inspection) told me to just go down there. I have a feeling it might depend on who you wind up talking to, but in my case I was told to mail it in...no interview. Same goes for EAD. It was a real bummer...a few months earlier and this whole thing would be going a lot easier for me. Oh well.
