AOS file transfer questions

Here is my situation:

1. Files marriage based AOS in SF june 2002. Got EAD.
2. My wife moved to NYC to start Med School. Lives in a dorm so no joint lease possible.
3. I just got laid off and am moving to NYC to join her. Just waiting for my AP.
4. She is a GA resident. We got married in Atlanta. Her parents live there too.

I know I have to do a COA(change of address) and get my file transfered, but where? Lets say I get it transfered to NYC, but then two months later I get a job in Chicago, will I need to get it transfered to Chicago then? How about transferring it to Atlanta? I'm really confused and don't know what to do. Help please. Thanks.

Re: AOS file transfer questions

You'll need to stay put as much as possible until you are adjusted. Just
one of the inconveniences we have all had to deal with.
You can try to keep changing your address, but past experience has shown
that just because you send a COA does not mean INS keeps up with your moves.
You need to use the address where you live. Now. Not two months from now.

As well, it may not be too helpful if you two don't live together and share
domicile and commingle finances. What I would do is to move to NYC and
rent an apartment together and live there and have INS send all information
to that address. I realize your situation is different, but INS doesn't
care. They are going to look at things like Joint Lease and commingling of
finances at your AOS interview. If you don't bother to live with one
another, that is going to be a red flag.

Re: AOS file transfer questions

Thanks for the response. We have everything shared except lease. We have joint finances, we had our insurance policies through my employer, we had a big wedding with our parents, relatives and friends, lots of awesome wedding and post-wedding pics etc etc.

The problem is me being on the move because of my job, and I don't know where I'll end up. I'm presently looking for a job in NYC, though, but no success so far. Thanks.
