We showed up at 7:15 on a Thursday morning. Already there were approximately a dozen people waiting ahead of us. They let us in a bit past 7:30 and directed us to a window to state what it was we were here for. They then issued us a number (we were fourth in line). However they don't go in the order the numbers are issued; it all depends on what you are there for.

The office is somewhat disorganized, as the same person who takes you in when you enter and issues you a number takes cases as well. So this makes this line go VERY slowly.

All the people ahead of us were here for something other than AOS filing. At around 8:30 am we were called to a second window; this is the window they send you to if you are filing any documents. We gave all our info and fees etc and the man told us they'd send us something in the mail to come and get my prints and EAD card done in about 4-6 weeks?! I told him we were under the impression it was issued the same day and he advised us that beginning sometime in April, they stopped issuing EADs same day due to the backlog caused by the LIFE act. He was very sympathetic to us, and said that the workers there have told their superiors about this problem but that that's the way it's going to be indefinitely. He did mention that they hired or were hiring a few people to help out in that area, and thought it might be possible that it won't take the entire 4-6 weeks, but there was no guarantee.

A pretty disappointing day as I was very anxious to get started working (both for the money and because I just want to start building my life here with my wife. So I guess I'm looking at another 2.5 hour drive in a month or so.

(This experience has also been posted to http://www.kamya.com/misc under the AOS experiences section).

Thanks for the insight. When we eventually get everything to that stage, we will also be filing with KC. Is it the same office that is on Conant Avenue or somewhere?

Jeremy I'm so sorry your experience was disappointing. We used the Wichita office of
the INS to do our EAD and fingerprinting....the only time we went to the Kansas City
District was to have our AOS interview.
