Anything similar to AA route finder?
Ok so not related to the coast to coast thread, but I'm preparing a shortlist of apartments for Michael to go and see in California when he's there next week (one thing that I can help out with "virtually"!).
You know we have both the RAC and AA routefinder type things, well I was looking for a US equivalent and can't seem to find one. I just want to see if I can work out the mileage and perhaps time of journey for him to work from the various addressed.
Any suggestions?

MSN maps is pretty good for street names, combined with google maps because something google just give route numbers rather than just the street name. - http://www.bing.com/maps/
TomTom also have a nice one too. - http://www.routes.tomtom.com/t/#/

I suggest you use the "TripTik" feature of the American Automobile Association. I just got it off the Automobile Club of Southern California WebSite and they don't even ask for membership!

I use this one from AAA (and also mapquest)
This will give you step by step instructions as well as advice on potential detours etc. It;s a really good one

Mapquest is "the debille". Avoid like the plague and go with Google Maps.

Where are you headed.
I use google to check my routes on a daily basis.
I have a TomTom One in the van and considering the daily driving I do it is rarely wrong. I see best buy have them for $129 at the mo.
Do canvas any local opinions if you can.
For example I often work in Santa Clara (Sunnyvale,San Jose,Mountain View) and travel down from Marin.
Lots of the sites have Google and TomTom suggest I take 101 south.
Even though it seems counter intuitive I take I280 all the way and cut across.
No idea where you're at but see if you can find out those things for your area. Traffic in CA can be tedious to say the least at times.
Good Luck!
