We brought in several cases (12 bottles/case) of single malt whisky, and a similar amount of other spirits, which we declared on our shipping manifest (to the shipping agent in the US, Mrs P was "the lady with the liquor." ). The duty was $2/ bottle, which was a tiny percentage of the cost of the whisky. Trying to smuggle it in would be ill advised.

That's good to know. My OH has been collecting spirits (mostly whisky, bourbon and tequila) for years. He was planning a mega party as we didn't think it would be feasible to ship them.

Not all shippers will/ like to, but that is their choice, not a problem with US Customs.
