Default Anyone shipped their household goods to NC or SC recently?

Hello there,

If anyone has shipped a 20 foot container of household goods and furniture to either North or South Carolina recently, I would be very interested in reading how much you paid and how long it took. My husband and I are moving to South Carolina in July and are just starting to get quotes. In advance of someone coming to our flat, it would be great to have an idea of what we'll be looking at financially.

Thanks so much in advance.

You are starting the process waaay too early. Shipping rates are set at "market rate" which varies considerably based on supply and demand, seasonal factors, the cost of fuel and insurance, etc. You probably don't realize, but shipping is a business remarkably similar to the stock and currency markets, with brokers, and "spot" and "forward" rates. Even closer to July, this means that a $4,000 rate for you could be a rip-off compared to, say, $5,000 that someone else paid in 2015.

There probably isn't much point in asking for quotes more than a maximum of three months ahead; two months would be better.

Thanks Pulaski - good point. I am looking for ball parks at this stage. I am currently negotiating an employment contract as well and would like to have a general idea. $1k here or there won't matter too much for now.

@Sheepdip - how do you like Lexington? That's right outside of Columbia, correct?

Yep, about 25 mins outside Columbia. It's nice, particularly where we are, great schools (main reason we moved here then) and great shops/dining etc. close by. Close to the airport and main interstates for getting further afield.

Our house is for sale if you're interested!!

This video we posted earlier today might help with understanding different methods and how the cost will be made up....

For a 20ft exclusive container door to door you are looking at approx. 4-6 weeks at the moment.

Hope that helps?
