Default Anyone had problems with Roadrunner email?

I finally got hooked up with broadband (bought a decent computer, yipeeeee!) and went through Time Warner/Roadrunner. Everything is working well, except the Roadrunner email address that they gave me...

Everything else I do is really fast, but when I try to access email or even compose a message it takes literally 5 mins to open the window.. I am wondering if I should just get an email account with Yahoo or whomever...

Had Bellsouth dial up before, and I had an email with them (web based) which I am loathe to quit using, just because everyone has that address - but I am assuming it will be like Freeserve in the UK - after 3 months of not dialling up with them, it just disappears...

I have Roadrunner, and e-mail, using Outlookk Express, is almost immediate to both download and send. You should speak to Roadrunner as something is clearly not right with your set-up.

Been using RR for email since I moved to the US (over 2.5 yrs). Never had a problem with them except during power failures.

I'd say it could be a problem with your computer or your OS.

Sounds like you're using it through their webmail site, and it sounds like their webmail servers are slow.

Services like RR are really designed to be used with an email client like Outlook Express, so try that out.

I've just had terrible problems with Outlook Express onto an IMAP server (not your problem I know). It was taking forever and a week to connect and continuously timing out. After an hour of cursing, turns out it was the antivirus program (Avast!) messing it up. Maybe try disabling your antivirus for a few minutes to see if that changes anything. Don't leave your computer in that state though!

Yep, you're right I was using the webmail site, I always had with Bellsouth and had no problems. Haven't had a chance to configure the Outlook Express stuff yet, so I will get going on that.

Thanks everyone!

gmail....it's the free google email, has pop access, which is good, and 1gb space, so handy to use as a online storage place, i use it for that, to keep bookmarks, important addresses and emails etc.

I still have loads of invites, so if your interested, PM with your email and I'll send one out.

Sounds daft to use an email application without having an antivirus program running. Better to switch to something other than Outlook Express so you can keep the antivirus application enabled...

It ain't outlook, it's avast that's causing the problems...could just tweak a setting....or get another AV program, there's plenty of decent free ones, Kasparov? however you spell it, and AVG are good ones with updates

This was a wierd one for wifey. Normally never use Outlook Express, but they insisted I use it for their email. IMAP, SSL crap, non-standard ports, general pain in the backside. I actually solved it with Bob's solution -- changed the antivirus proggy to AVG.
