Anyone else jobhunting?

Been in Georgia since valentines day. Job hunting in ernest for 3 weeks now, no interviews yet (my racket is PR/media/comms) but there are two or three reasonable vacancies coming in each day.

How is your own job search coming if you're in our boat and how long did it take you to land one when you arrived?

Re: Anyone else jobhunting?

I managed to find a part time job as a teller within two months of arriving (arrived Sep 29th, job by Nov 17th)... the bad news - I live in a very small town and can't drive over here yet so am really stuck just working part time.

Hopefully as soon as I have my license I'll be moving to either Toledo, OH or Mertztown, PA but then will have to resume the job hunt :(.

Good luck with your job hunt. I know I'm pretty miserable just working part time but I guess it's better than having nothing.

Good luck with the hunt.
I'm thinking of going back to work after the summer hols. I noticed a new Doctors office opening in town so maybe they'll be hiring, I've worked as a doctors nurse before here so I've got my fingers crossed. I only want part time.

Mel,
hope the new job is closer to home, not having to drive I-285 would be a big plus in my book.

Job hunting is really a struggle at the moment. I'm in NYC and am writing after 5 or six jobs a day and hearing absolutely nothing. I have a decent education and have come from a good job in the U.K but just aren't getting anything of any quality over here. I have a job working for New York Sports Club but it's minimum wage and in NYC its impossible to live on that.
I have lots of friends also looking and they're finding it as bleak as I am.
I'm thankful for the job I have but am still hoping for something better.

Been job hunting just over a year now.

Done a few short term freelance gigs....which are rubbish.

Had a few interviews, a few to second, third and fourth stages, either didn't get a offer or the positions went into hiring freezes.

Doing better than some who haven't even had interviews, less well than others, most of the coders landed on their feet either at other companies or in other industries, same for a few of the other more senior artists and a couple other people.

Good time to network though, but there's just so many students, annoying little gits who'll work for peanuts and not realise they are being taken for a ride.

I am north of the border but its no better up here, regardless of what the politicians keep claiming.

I have been looking since January, but have recently slowed down as I am running outta places to apply to, few ads online or in the paper these days.

Known unemployment hit 12.9% in my city, and that doesn't even count those not on unemployment like myself, so its likely higher, but the national average is around 8%.

Not a good time to need a job. I applied to school and government student loans so I can get some income coming in, even if its loans. I can be a student again.

Re: Anyone else jobhunting?

After two months of searching and applying, after I got my temp authorization, I finally got an interveiw and a job. Its only a drivers job and the money is not that good but its a job and after nine months of not working and living off the wife I am so gratefull to be able to work especially in this economy. It means getting up at 5.00 and doing an hours drive to get there but to my mind its worth it. This job could well have saved my recent marraige as being at home all day was sending me mad.
Good luck with your hunting and if its offered snap it up whatever it is, if you dont someone else will
