Anyone else having NSC wait for petition?

All I can say is...this waiting is wretched! I sent out my petition to the Nebraska Service Center on August 21st and it arrived on the 24th. I haven't even been sent a receipt for it or anything else. Being fed up, I phoned the 800 INS info number and a lady with a heavy Texan accent informed me that the center is back-logged due to taxes.
TAXES?!
Will someone please tell me what the INS has to do with the bloody IRS?
Actually, if anybody else is experiencing this problem and has any information to share, please let me know.
Thanks much,
J.

I did ask the question re the audit when I called the NSC last night. The lady I
spoke to assured me the audit was just their regular annual audit and it was having
no bearing on the processing. ?????

Hmm, forgive me while I review her statement. The audit has three phases. In the
first, files stop moving from one office to another. That won't have any bearing on
this because it's all within NSC. A week later (I forget the exact dates, I posted
them a while back) all files stop being moved within a center. That means that no
files move from the mailroom (for instance). For the final week all processing stops
and they just count what they have (actually this may take less than a week).
Hmm, that won't slow things down? Some strange quirk of relativity perhaps? A strange
quark of quantum mechanics? Sounds like that lady needs auditing!
Andy.
P.S. To all physicists - sorry for the terrible pun!

I do tend to believe your theory has more belief. We were told that our petition was
given to an officer on September 13th and that it would take at most 10 days to
approval... What else could be the hold up..

Hi J
Yes we are 2 days ahead of you (is anyone ahead in this game?) but in the same
situation, our petition was received by NSC on 22nd Aug. Watching folks who
petitioned at other service centres (why do they call them that?) getting
results, and us sitting twiddling our fingers trying to be patient is certainly
wearing a bit thin!
Patience whats that?

Hmmm... I like your idea, the lady doesn't have a clue.
Naw, seriously though. What else could be taking so long? I suppose now all I can do is wait around and watch for my check to be cashed, huh?
UGH!
If anyone cares to share their K-1 waiting process and is in the same stage of the process, please do email me.

According to reports earlier this year it was significant. Remember that the service
centers were hardest hit in the mailrooms because most petitions sent their way could
be safely put aside for a few years since visa numbers wouldn't be immediately
available. The local INS offices which had a lesser impact (though still significant
for some offices) had a hit not just in the mailroom but in processing too because
people filing there were immediate relatives of US citizens.

The source I was using for this information (Matt Udall's website) no longer has the
specifics so I can't say. However, given that VSC was very "front-logged" too it
seems all of the service centers probably took a hit relative to the number of
petitions they process anyway. Just a guess but I would imagine TSC was worse hit
followed by CSC followed by NSC and VSC.

Patience is a dirty word as far as I'm concerned. We applied in person on August 11,
our check was cashed August 14 and we haven't heard anything since then.

Sara, you poor thing! I really feel for you! That would be excruciatingly painful! Here! Cash the check! But don't bother doing anything! Jeeeeeeeeez.
So nobody knows when to expect some action? Keep me updated if you hear anything.

Another reason for delay at this time of year is that this is the last week of the
fiscal year for the INS. The INS new year starts October 1st - so I bet there is a
lot of end of the year internal paperwork that is getting done right now. Have
patience - some day (maybe after your 5th or 6th wedding anniversary) you'll look
back at all this and laugh...or not Take Care. Shelley
