Any recommendations for removal companies and relocating the mutt?
I'm sure there are threads already and it's just my incompetent searching so feel free to yell at me not to waste your time if it's all already out there....
Anyway, now we're moving, do you have any recommendations for moving companies? We turned down the full removal option and took a cash payment instead - we should have about $30,000 but hope not to use it all. We possibly may take our lovely DFS sofas as they're fairly new depending on how much extra it costs to ship but the rest will be just boxes, no other furniture, just personal stuff like clothes, books, kids' toys etc. We did something similar when we moved to the UK (we had no money then) and ended up furnishing a 3 bed house from freecycle, I'd happily do that again other than beds and sofas.
And now the problem of the mutt. We need to bring him, has anyone shipped a dog? I'm guessing UK to US is easier than the other way. Any recommendations of companies?
Thanks!

You are correct there are loads of threads already. Go to the Search Function located in the pink bar at the top of the page...go to Advanced Search. Then go to the left hand side of the page...in the box Key Words type in the relevant words and change to Search Titles Only. Make sure you highlight the US Forums in the large box further down the page. You should then be able to pull up all the past threads on that particular subject.
Also take a look in the BE Wiki...again the tab is located at the top of the page.

If you're not sending big stuff, there's a wiki entry made from Ozzie Doc's post on her experiences of using various services which would be a good start.
If you're thinking of using a container or even a half container, there are hundreds of threads on that topic, but the answer at the end of the day boils down to exactly where something is being shipped from and where it ends up and who ever you use or get a quote from, find out who they contract the other end too so that you can search them out on the movingscam website.
The dog, again, yup, loads of threads. Final answer again, still depends on final location, any lay overs you might take and time of year, as some routes won't take animals during height of summer/winter, whilst others won't be a problem. Also, although there are Federal requirements on vaccinations, there probably are some specific state requirements too, which you should be able to find if you google your state you'll be moving to.

we used PetAir who were recommended by others on this forum - we were very happy with the service.
