They do look at you, if you have skills in demand and lots of experience. Then they even come after you! My husband has been headhunted from all over the US and they'd happily go through the visa process for him.

But as a 20 year old admin assistance, you stand little or no chance (sorry). You need a lot more experience and some specialist knowledge, so if the US is your goal then realise it's going to be a long term plan, but that if you work hard and get yourself in a good position, you can do it in a decade or so. Do you have a degree? If not, that's your first job as that's pretty much essential, and then just work your way up and ideally in to an industry where you can transfer easily between a UK and US office.

Alternatively, stick to Canada which I know was your recent plan. Good luck. :)

Rachael, I'm not sure how old you are or what your profession is, but one way is to work for a large international company for a year and then ask for a transfer over.
Another way is to come over on vacation and maybe you'll find "true love" !!! Good Luck! :)

wow! you sound pretty desperate for one so young, with her whole life ahead:blink: Unless you have to put a 'lot' of effort into your goal, how would you appreciate the results?

By reading about the U.S., you don't mean Florida, Texas, Arizona, or California right? :p

"Ive always wanted to live in America, ive brought books and books about the visas and ways to immigrate. Everything is so overwhelming as there is so much to look at.

I would spend 10 years going through a visa programme if i new i would be living in America after, but it seems that unless your a CEO of a company or a brain surgeon they dont even want to consider you.

Can anyone tell me how they immigrated to USA without any family members already there.

And maybe any suggestions on how to get a job offer as everything seems so much harder than the other countries.

Any help would be amazing

Thanks

Rachael"
So you posted an identical thread in 2008. How have you done with the suggestions you were given back then?

Hope that she didn't look at a current temperature map across the winter and see which places where it's over 70 degrees consistently and decided she must live here  Cause, OP, if you did, might I kindly point you over to the Australia forums?

In nearly 2 years, she's done nothing! It seems she simply isn't willing to invest the time/energy necessary to get from Point A to Point B. I'll note that she's started similar threads on getting to Canada and Australia... and it seems she's done nothing about them either. She only asks the same questions over and over again with huge time gaps in between.

The US immigration system is carefully calibrated in order to ensure that a totally uneducated and unskilled man who cannot speak one word of English and who swims across the Rio Grande one night probably has more chance of settling permanently in the United States than the majority of European PhDs.

If you do not have a PhD or highly specialist skill, or are unprepared to marry an overweight man from Nebraska that you met online, you have very little chance of living in America.

Excuse me Ian - but this forum is for advice and maybe a few answers....its really got nothing to do with you what ive previously asked about if all your willing to offer is useless advice! There is nothing wrong with me looking for options for the future thank you very much.

Everyone else thank you for the help.
