Default Any chance of easier life for Canadians in the US?

Hi there,

Following Bush Martin and Ferrara meeting (North America nations),
do you think that there is any chance the US will ease the restrictions
on Canadians regarding work in the US?
Is it possible in the near future, long run or never?
What do you think?

Thanks, Denis

IMHO, it looks like the opposite is going to be true. The US government announced that they may be requiring all Canadians to have passports starting in 2008 and all US citizens entering the US from Canada will need travel documents as well. This is going to kill the Canadian tourism industry, and those dollars will probably stay in the US. Many of the 30,000,000 Canadians already have passports and something like 7% to 20% of the 300,000,000 Americans have them. Many Canadians will most likely get themselves a passport so they can travel south for the winter, or over to the US for cheap gasoline. The US citizens will just go visit one of the 50 states with the climate they're looking for and won't have the same urgency to travel or get a passport. Considering that everyone on the trip would require a document, this could seriously curtail travel.

This is most likely for security issues, but Canada didn't help when they decided not to allow the theoretical missile shield to be placed on Canadian soil. It looks like the administration is seeking payback. However, in 2008 there will be a new administration so they may delay or revoke this rule change.
