Any British nurses awaiting green card?
 

I would like to make contact with other UK nurses using nursing agencies to obtain their green cards through taking the NCLEX. I need support as this process has been frustratingly long. It would be great to talk to anyone in a similar situation.

I passed my NCLEX in July and applied for my green card in August. I have heard nothing, although I've been told that I should get Phase I approval soon. Help!

Do you know what was filed? Was is Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien
Worker? Where was it filed (could have be INS California Service Center,
INS Nebraska Service Center, INS Texas Service Center, or INS Vermont
Service Center)? When was it filed (month and year? And where are you
right now, inside the U.S. or outside? If inside, what is your current
temporary status?

Do you know what Phase I approval means? That is not a term generally used
by U.S. immigration practitioners. It could be I-140 approval.

Has anyone got you started on getting your VisaScreen from CGFNS in
Philadelphia? Taking the NCLEX is a prerequisite for that. Getting your
state nursing license is also prerequisite for that. If you are outside the
U.S., you will have to get the VisaScreen before you can enter the U.S. as a
permanent resident based on the job offer as a nurse.

Yes I have a license...issued in Vermont in July 2002. Yes I have done VisaScreen...my agency have completed all the paperwork for that. I believe that I will be going through Vermont as that is where my license is issued from, and it was file in August 2002. I am currently in the UK. It was the I-140, as you stated, and I believe it is the approval for that that I am waiting for. Phase I approval is the term used by my agency and their lawyers. It is the approval that allows me to continue to the Embassy interview. I did not need CGFNS as I trained in England, and I have already passed the NCLEX. Hope that explains everything.

Well, I am not another nurse in the same situation, but I can give you a
little information. According to http://www.shusterman.com/vsc.html, your
I-140 will be approved probably within a month or so. You can check via the
internet by entering your EAC number at this site:
https://egov.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/...s/caseStat.jsp. If you don't
have the EAC number, you can get it from the lawyers. It is the Receipt
Number for the I-140 generated at the INS Vermont Service Center.

About 3 months after the I-140 approval, you will get some forms and
instructions from the National Visa Center, a State Department facility in
New Hampshire which is involved in processing all immigrant visas issued at
U.S. consular posts.

If all goes well, the interview will be scheduled about 2 to 3 months after
that. You will appear at the U.S. Embassy in London, receive an immigrant
visa, travel to the U.S., and become a permanent resident upon entry to the
U.S.

How did you manage to pass NCLEX-RN without first taking the CGFNS three
part process i.e.Credentials certification, the CGNFS exam and the English
test ( I assume you would be exempt for that in the UK)? I was under the
impression that no nurse could even take the NCLEX-RN exam in the USA unless
they could demonstrate that they had passed the CGFNS process abroad.

As an English nurse who trained in the English language, I am excempt from the CGFNS. Only foreign-trained nurses need take it...along with the TOEFL (English language exam). All I needed to be able to take the NCLEX is the correct transcripts of training from my English nursing school, to ensure I did the proper course and have done the desired amount of hours in various specialties.

I am going through the same process at the moment and passed the exam in August and applied for i-140 in September. At the moment I am waiting for the approval of that. As far as I am aware you should get the packet 3 within a month or 2(after approval of i-140) and then its a matter of filling out that and waiting for your interview.

According to the latest processing time report from Vermont, they are currently processing Nurse cases from 17th of July, so with mine if they progress a months worth of cases each month then I HOPE to be approved in 2 months or so.
