For the Ants, try Combat Source kill(Another Dial/Henkel company). Stuff worked great on a big nest I had outside within a few days.

My wife and I woke up a couple of days ago to find ants in our kitchen and dirty linen basket (a genuine case of ants in your pants . p.s. for Fire Ants in the garden I have tried various things and have settled on Amdro bait. We have been in the house over 3 years now and have had no fire ants for almost 2 years since using it.
