Default Another Year...Another Tax Return...

Happy 2017 everyone (with and just praying for the best )...

Just to say - for those, like me, who use Turbo Tax and prefer to download the software to their computer (rather than work online - in the Cloud)....Amazon is by far the cheapest option:

Turbo Tax Deluxe 2016 for Federal and State is $39.86
That's a $20 saving over price elsewhere
Download and CD versions are same price.
If you download be sure to select either mac or pc

I think, with Amazon, there's also an appreciable price saving on the Premier and other versions, as well....

This is the same price as Costco and Fidelity. I am waiting to see if State Farm does their deal again, but I have heard rumours that they are no longer doing the Turbotax discounts. Paid $30 for premier last year. Also if I just log into turbotax, they are offereing me premier for $40 online or $55 downloaded. Also the same price.

Coupon cabin are giving 30% cashback, but I know nothing about coupon cabin

Not exactly....

1) 'Tho Fidelity SAY they're offering $20 discount - when you click on link which says: Get TurboTax now and save up to $20... you're brought to Intuit's web site where Deluxe costs $10 more than on Amazon

2) Yes Costco price matches Amazon's - but they only offer CD option. You cannot simply download the software. Not so cool with a newer computer which may lack a CD player (like Macs since 2012)

anyway...do what suits you. I found Amazon to be the most straightforward, offered the most options AND was the cheapest...

ps The TurboTax offers you mention in your post don't include the State software.

Cheaper to use Taxact.com

And they can impory your details from a PDF (or from HR or TurboTax).

I used to use TurboTax but prefer to pay less at Taxact

No Sales Tax on the downloads either (there is if you purchase a disk).

As one tax attorney explained it to me: Transfer atoms or molecules and it's taxable. Transfer electrons and it's not taxable.

With that tidbit, Happy New Year to all British Expats!

That used to be true in all States, but now it's state specific. For me , no sales tax either way, CD or download, store or online.

Just received an email from Turbo Tax saying there's a price reduction on all 3 versions of their software over the next 4 days. It brings their prices a bit below Amazon's.
The online advert is useful because clicking beneath each version will show exactly which forms it includes:

I'm a creature of habit - especially after painfully conquering the technical difficulties associated with online filing of US taxes for UK income ....
Am now a willing prisoner of TT procedure
