Another one about passport renewal

I read on another thread that you may have to fly to DC to renew the passport. Is this true?

No....you mail it to the DC Embassy and they will Fed-Ex it back to you.

I will be renewing mine, for the 2nd time, in December.

I'd recommend Fedexing (or any other courier company) it there. We sent my daughter's renewal application via the postal service recorded delivery and the passport in it was removed on route - which caused the renewal to be rejected (as they claimed we hadn't sent them the old passport).

How the heck did the passport escape it's envelope? Surely that's illegal?

Yes - we had to report the passport as stolen, get a police report and then refile the application - of course, then it takes much longer as they treat it as a new application
