American humour

or lack thereof.

I'm in serious need of assistance. I've come to realize that my sarcasm level is entirely too low.

I only offend my closest American friends occasionally while trying to make funny observations. This is totally unacceptable and me mum would be ashamed of me.

With this realization came hope. I know where to turn for help.

Any advice?

Pete

Just repeat very slowly.

"Life. Don't talk to me about Life. Brain the size of a Universe ..."

And then walk off sharply muttering under your breath.

;) you're welcome.

We have humor ... it is American humor.

You have humor ... it is British humor.

We don't get yours and you don't get ours. I would suggest that you listen to Americans when they are laughing and joking around. We will put ourselves down on occasion, we don't think it is funny to put others down or to make fun of someone's bad fortune. Hope that helps.

Well this is quite plainly not true. I know plenty of born and bred Americans who would wholeheartedly disagree and who engage in this kind of humour with me regularly. They're bloody good at it too.

British dentistry seems to be an acceptable topic though

Joan Rivers is quite good at it.

Also I think Rete is wrong that Americans don't like our humour. Stuff like Shaun of the Dead is catching on here.

Well done everyone. Thanks.

SoS, how'd you get the H on your forehead? Fall into a printing press?
