And of course, no subjects of the Crown anywhere are fond of their bitter.

How'm I doing? :-) Almost time for a Guinness, cheers.

You can't really force it - it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven.

That's why 'roasts' seem rather unfunny (to me anyway).

Didn't say that Sally ... said didn't get it.

I watch a few programs on PBS from the UK and I don't see the humor in most of it but I don't like the drama programs.

Never heard of Shaun of the Dead

The comedy programmes on PBS are extremely dated or boring things like Doc Martin.

You would love Shaun of the Dead

With this realization came hope. I know where to turn for help.

Any advice?

Will avoid reading through all these answers and just say 'Americans have no sense of humour'

Germans have no sense of humour.

Americans just can't laugh at certain things..........such as life, death, themselves, politics, religion, jobs, their country, weather, immigrants, global warming, 9-11, the Irish, shuttle disasters, unemployment, war, the cost of living, tipping and bacon.

Germans have a huge sense of humor, but it is often encased in subtleties like claiming they have none. While laughing.

And I laugh at the Irish all day. I married one, after all. I agree with death, religion, global warming, and tipping, by the way, even though I knew you meant them all facetiously. I should add that Americans have much less of a sense of humor about sex than many other nationalities do, and it's related to the no sense of humor about religion.

Here's one to try out then:

Hold out your hands and put one over the other with both palms facing up.
Now quickly move one over the top of the other and keep repeating (palms up) whilst asking "what is this?"

The answer is Jesus eating a malteser.

Bacon, of course, is never a laughing matter.

American: "A what?"

No, I personally have a sense of humor about religion because I'm an atheist, something very unremarkable in the UK but not in (expletive) Texas. Oh, right. No sense of humor in Texas about Texas.
