American History?

Before I go to an american school, I need to learn a little bit of american history since...thats what they mostly study in History. Could someone possible tell me some important dates? I'm going to make a timeline to remind me of it but I don't know the first thing. I'll study into the subjects but I have to know the subjects fist

Thanks everyone in Advance!

There are a fair amount of American schools and bookshops in the UK, I'm sure you could find some textbook or other online to order to get you started.

Here's all you need: U.S. History for Dummies. Have fun!

p.s. I actually own (and have read every page of) "British History for Dummies" and it's an excellent read!

Hi:

I majored in History as an undergraduate. And the majority of the studies was not in US history. Also, what kind of US history are you looking at? There can be different POV's on that.

If you are interested in important dates, some arbitrary selections.

July 4, 1776
June 21, 1788
January 4, 1848
September 9, 1850
July 1-4, 1863
April 9, 1865
April 14, 1865
October 24, 28 & 29, 1929
March 4, 1933
December 7, 1941
August 6, 1945
January 18, 1950
November 22, 1963
January 20, 2001

BTW, I happen to have a certain affinity for June 4, 1942 and October 25, 1944.

Don't fret Bunni, my 14 year old daughter has been in school over here for just 5 weeks, knew nothing about American History and is getting A's and A+ in her work.

All the work she gets, the answers are on the board or on little hand outs they give you, she is finding it easier than she thought.

Back in the UK, she was an average student, over here she is one of the brain boxes!

Send me a private message and if you want to, i will give you her msn addy and you can talk to her.

Well, you know us Europeans - bitter, twisted and just plain jealous of America and its great public transport system, benevolent attitude to the little brown people, & wonderful healthcare!
Since I last wrote I have another date:
April 26, 2008 - Robin got bitten to death by blackflies while doing his yardwork

Vietnam War is the denial "sshhhhhh, we don't like to talk about defeat" accolade.

Plymouth Rock era is the period my mum's side of the fam first came over.
