Well..... there are bills in British life too.... but I suppose a few less, and the banking system / electronic transfer / chip-n-pin stuff makes it a bit easier to handle things. A few things like mobile phones and many broadband plans are cheaper there, but other things are more. (How do I know? I've paid some friends' bills as favours to them which were returned in kind with free lodging, food, care packages sent to me, etc.)

Seriously, many of the square box rooms here that I have seen have no windows.

Now there are other rooms similar in size to a box room, and it has a strange cupboard space for storage, and it has a window. I'm guessing the room would be 5 x 6. Would this also be considered a box room considering the storage?

I thought a bedroom had to have a window for safety...not to mention ventilation.

I think so. But I've seen some 30s ones with just a little round window.

The third bedroom in many of the houses is a "box room". A box room doesn't have any windows and is about the size of an American walk in closet. Most people I know who have such a room use it for storage only.
Well I understand what you are saying and completely believe you but that would not apply to us as we have no interest in living in London or anywhere near it as we know we can't afford it. As I already made really clear in my prior posts we are looking everywhere else BUT London.

Colette

P.S. In some larger cities here in the US it is REALLY expensive too probably as bad as London. In New York you pay $2000-3000 a month for a small apartment sometimes it is a total DUMP.

Thank you for being informative, honest, yet really nice in your replies. I have gone in a few UK chat rooms and been really nice and just asked questions..some folks were great and others totally attacked me and started with the stupid American crap. I don't pretend to know about the UK because I don't.....but I am sincere in that I want to know more about it and get opinions and what not. Also I hope to get across that we are not being naive in thinking we are going to move to London and live in some luxurious flat somewhere..not going to happen.

I actually had a close friend from high school whose mother was Scottish....my friend herself had never been to the UK and never did get dual citizenship through her mother but she was convinced that she was going to move to London and live there all on her own with no college education or formal training...and no money

By the way something funny...my husband gets annoyed when some people here don't know what a "black and tan" is when he orders a beer. Sometimes the waitress just gives him a blank stare and they go to ask the bartender. It's kind of funny... He said the beer in England was really really good
