That's correct. they call is 'global transfer' but they don't really close the UK account. I moved from Australia and applied for an American Express which was auto declined. Called up the global transfer number - she asked for decline reference number and my american express (I had some 8 years history) and approved a 10k limit in 5 minutes.

But you still need a regular US bank account to pay off the AMEX each month, presumably?

I'd think so - you have to get the money to the them somehow and I can't remember if the website allows you to make a payment via a debit card, but I don't think so.

You can not pay a credit card with credit card (unless it's a balance transfer). They don;t allow taht for obvious reasons.

Yes you need to either mail them a check each month or set up an monthly payment direct from a US bank account.
