Bit of a shame he didn't go elsewhere in the US, one city is a very small part of this country.

Couldn't agree more, I've certainly had my ups and downs in nearly 20 years here. In some ways that is what is so great and sometimes frustrating about the US, you can go from 'hero to zero' and back again a number of times if you stay here long enough.

Its a great article, it is interesting the point he made that there is little resentment towards the government. In Europe the government does loads especially for some and yet resentments run high especially for some that feel entitled to more.

A good read - thanks.

I'm usually greatly irritated by talk of "The American Dream", but I did enjoy this article.

I think The American Dream is a long outdated concept. Maybe it existed in the late 40s and 50s (Norman Rockwell and all that).

If all the American Dream ever consisted of was to get rich, it wasn't a very good dream anyway!

If it was a dream of freedom it would be only relevant to what one had previously .Inthe case of us Brits - we didn't need a dream of freedom. Maybe there are still some immigrants who find their dream in that respect.

I like then man who said "It comes and goes. It'll come again". An optimist looking towards the next election??
