Allo Tosh gotta Toshiba?

I'm in the market for a new laptop and was looking at some of the Toshiba ones. Not normally a name that jumps at me when I think of the computer industry but i've heard good things about there notebooks. Was windering if anyone has bought one and if they are any good? I'm looking at buying this one from Circuit City http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...qp=0&oid=87514 for $1200 it has 512mb RAM, and a 2.8ghz processor, not a deal to be sneezed at if they are reliable I reckon. Anyone got one of these? My budget is under $1500 and processor speed rules my world.

Have you looked at the deals Dell are offering lately?
I picked up something simmilar to one of these about a year back but it cost me almost $1000 more then than nowadys.
Laptops are getting cheaper and cheaper.
Just shop around.

I am typing to you from a Toshiba Satellite notebook right now! I bought it last November and have been very satisfied with it ever since. Mine is a Celeron 2.4GHz. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. I didn't get mine to play games, but mostly for word processing and the internet. Suits my needs.

And go for Circuit City...My in-laws work for them... ;)

Toshiba laptops were top-rated in the last two laptop reviews in Consumer Reports.

I had a Toshiba Satellite up until the middle of last year, when I spilled a coffee on it and fried the damn thing. Up until then, it had been working great, despite being a little on the old side.

Me too :)

Bought mine from Best Buy and got $250 back in rebates as it was on offer.

I seem to remember paying $1600 for it ($1350 after rebates)... I'd have to look at my CC bill for the month to be sure.

It's also tax deductible as a work expense..lol

I have the P4 3.06Mhz version - but NOT the one with the fancy widescreen etc. It's an A25-23072.

I used to buy and sell used laptops and Toshiba Satellite and Portage were always part of the cream of the crop. That being said, I got myself a used Dell (2 years old), threw it around for 3 years and never had one problem. I would recommend Dell over Toshiba but with either you cant really go wrong.

I had a Satellite Pro 4600 until recently when it was replaced by a Dell 400. Personally I preferred the rugged old Tosh.

How long do you think you will keep it? I had my old Satellite 2675DVD for 3 years before the power socket flaked out and now it wont startup at all. Costs more to fix it than what it's worth. Build quality is not fantastic on consumer Toshes, i won't buy another one. But that's just my opinion - I am otherwise a fan of their TVs (used to be made in my hometown in UK) and video gear.

Well thanks for the info guys, we went to circuit city tonight and went for the Toshiba 2.8 ghz...a bit over our budget at close to 2 grand (with 4 year policy), but you know how it goes when you go into these stores. I like the widescreen look, might take a bit of getting used to, but will be cool for DVD's.
