Default For all you "worldly" people out there...

Give this a go:

http://www.geographyolympics.com

You are given 10 randomly selected countries and 200 seconds to locate all of them on an unmarked map. No two quizzes are alike, and there is no limit to the number of times you can take the quiz.

The site tracks participants' scores according to what country they're from, and then has an overall scoreboard with country-by-country breakdown scores. (The US score is also broken down by state, but the UK score is NOT broken down by country, btw.)

It's kinda cool to see how well you know (or don't know) world geography. I've taken 2 quizzes so far and got 60% on both -- not sure if that's good or bad, but at least it's better than average, right!?!

Finally got it! All the ones I missed (3) were only one country or so out. Think you should get at least half a credit if you get a neighbour -- especially with those little bastards that are hard to hit with the mouse!

I fluctuated between 4 and 7 correct. Isn't Tuvalu somewhere in the south pacific?

Tuvalu and Kiribati - formerly known as the Gilbert and Ellis Islands. Wonderful people.

First time I played for the UK and got 3 right cos they gave me all the eastern European countries like Azerbaijan, which I can spell but have no clue where it is and some strange African countries which I've never even heard of. The 2nd time I thought "A-ha! I'll play for the US and lower their average " and they gave me loads of easy countries like Brazil, India, New Zealand and South Africa so I got 60%.

2 possible reasons for this:

1) It serves me right for trying to cheat the scores or
2) The questions are easier for the Americans

P.S. On the second go, I managed to identify Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, I was supposed to be identifying Brunei

I think the "leaderboard" is a little suspect. Are there really hundreds of people with superb geographical knowledge playing this game in Eritrea and Bhutan? Is it possible that after the three times representing their own country people are picking others at random? I see more than 150 people in the Vatican City have taken the test. Given the size and population of the Holy See that must mean old JP2 himself has had a few goes.

Incidentally, I managed to advance the average score of the UK by a mighty 0.02% in my three goes. Woo-hoo.

Your Score 40.00%
United Kingdom's Previous Score 52.280%

United Kingdom's New Score 52.279%

Your impact:
Unfortunately, you have decreased your country's score by 0.001%

I played for the USA (will try again for Blighty) and got 50%. And I thought I was good at geography!

Unfortunately it gave me lots of African countries which I always get mixed up!
