Default To All K-1 Wanna Be's

If you are new to the immigration game and are in love and want to marry a foreigner, before you start asking questions, do yourself a big favor and read the FAQ on the Fiancee Visa.

The K1 FAQ http://www.k1faq.com
The Mysterious Sealed Brown Envelope http://www.k1faq.com/faq_index.htm

Read it from beginning to end. It is a multi-facet process and one should not go into with knowing only one part of the process but all of it. Save yourself the headaches of not knowing the steps by reading this very informative website.

After reading it, come back here and ask all the questions you want. By then your questions will be formulated and concise and you won't be stymied by answers that don't make sense to you.

I hate to say this, i have been in this group a long time, but rete is a real hateful
little bitch that thinks she runs this damn place. Not sure why she is so damn stuck
up and thinks she knows every damn thing, but she sure is good at posting incorrect
information anyway. THIS IS A HELP NEWSGROUP, SO SHUT THE HELL UP, justr because me
and you have completed this whole process, it does not give you the right to sit here
and question everything someone says or does here. If anyone every wants to know
anything about canada, ask her, she knows everything!

So nice to see you back. We've missed you. Are you well and prospering? How's the Mrs.?

BTW thank you for those beautiful words. But you place me too high on that pedestal. You really have to start thinking of me as a mere mortal.

When I post a question I look for Rita to answer it based on the fact that Jim is
Canadian and therefore their process was the same as the one I am in now. I
appreciate that she takes the time to read the board and give sound advice. All
that she was asking was for anyone to do some research first before posting a bunch
of questions when the answers are in the FAQ, which was not an unreasonable
request. Bonnie

that's why this is a newsgroup, it's to discuss things! Not keep them personal. I
think I and many others have bitten our tongue long enough on this one. Go back and
read some of retes posts, a lot of them talk to down to the original poster and she
always know better than everyone else. You see people distressed and desperate
posting here, then rete comes alomg and makes them feel worse, I am not the only one
here who has noticed it believe me! It's a long tough process, took me 4 yrs and now
it's finally done with, I still hang in here even though i have no need too anymore,
this group is very helpful, it was to me and many others. I just get fed up with the
know it alls in here! But you always have one every where you go, I guess Rete is the
resident know it all here.

Now that I check back some of her posts, heres one that shows what Sean means

"Please do not take offense at this remark, but you have been on the NG for a while
now. I find it hard to believe that you don't have a full grip on this process. May I
suggest that you read the FAQ page from beginning to end. It will tell you point by
point everything you are questioning and in detail."

I don't think it is anyone position here to make comments like this. As stated below,
this is for help, and not for remarks that make the person feel like they are all
experts in this field. And the FAQ's do not have every question answered on it. I
posted a link to find out about Pardons and Criminal records for Canadian citizens,
never seen a thing on the FAQ's about it!! As far as I am conserned the only big
poster here that gives great advise is Alvena. Sean wrote:

I am not defending anyone here but it's true that some people show up here and go"so
how do I get a K1 visa?". I read quite a lot before coming here to find precisions
that you cant get on the information websites.... If no one actually tries to gather
information for himself first then it's a waste of time for those who post long
answers....

although I must say i dont really know what kind of question triggered that
argument.... I was just making a comment about people asking a general question which
answer can be easily found on the Doc Steen site..

For Dabear?

Yes your question is answered on the FAQ in the Mysterious Envelope Section if you had cared to read it.

Alvena answered you before anyone else did and I find it unnecessary to repeat the correct information.

If you care to you can go to:

http://www.kamya.com/misc/polcert.html

BTW in answer to your question on how to write a check to INS, it tells you in the I-129F instruction sheet. Make out the check to Immigration and Naturalization Service and in the remarks area put "I-129F fee"

For your answer.

As for Marie

Asking someone not to take offense was said because too many people get huffy if they are not answered directly and instead directed to the a source with the information.

I think a lot of us who have been here awhile know what Sean is talking about. We
have been bitten by Rete, once too often, with her "holier-than-thou" attitude. And
one needs to sound off. And then one feels a little better and more able to cope with
the resident "know-it-all". But I'm sure that Sean will agree with me when I say,
that the newsgroup will not be the same without our Rita. It's wonderful that she
takes the time to answer the queries of the newsbies here. And give back to the
newsgroup which has been the mainstay for her as well as the rest of us. Ranjini

Default Re: To All K-1 Wanna Be's

Let me tell you about when I first came here. Reinhard (my now husband, then
boyfriend - not even fiance yet) had been denied entry on a B1/B2 visa. His plans
were to come here for 6 months to get to know me better and get to know his
half-brother better (they are 12 years apart and never lived together...)

When I got here I was desperate, basically in a panic. I had conflicting information
about if he'd ever get back into the US.

Most of my questions were not in the FAQ, yet still I made a pain of myself around
here asking questions over and over and over. (Heck, I was in love and insecure)

I was told I was being a pain in the ass, and looking back years later I think "My
God, how did they tolerate me at first???"

You see, when you're new here, everything is confusing as hell. And we know that.

But those of us who have been here a while also get tired of the many people who
are too lazy to do their own research, when they're told where to go to look for
their answers.

To have to answer the same questions 10 times in one week gets on ones nerves a bit,
when those questions (and more) are already written out very well in a clear,
logical, plain-english way on at least 3 different websites whose URLs are posted
here regularly. I myself haven't been posting answers lately because I've been so
damned busy with other stuff and know I can't post some of the simpler answers
without getting damned impatient. I'm glad someone else does post the information.

As for talking down, if someone asks "Can we go on a honeymoon in Europe after our
wedding?" then yes, many people here are going to know the answer, and therefore know
better than the person posting. And yes, that's a question that is *EASILY* answered
by putting in 10 minutes of research on your own.

As for your hanging around even though you're done, that's what Rete does as well.
And while I'm not looking up your history of posting right now, I can tell you that
when I think of the people who give the most correct, helpful, informative answers
(which includes "Go read the FAQ - it'll answer your questions") Rete is right there
towards the top of the list. If you don't like the "tone" of her posts, stop reading
them. Heaven knows there are people here I like to ignore.

Look at what she was replying to and how she replied. First statement "Please do not
take offense at this remark" - sounds polite to me.

Now look at what the person she was replying to asked: "First, when do you file for
advanced parole?"

Section 2.0...THE K1/K2 VISA PROCESS - General Outline - point 5 "5. Immediately
after marriage, you must apply for an Adjustment of Status, Form I-485, to become a
permanent resident. You will also apply for an Employment Authorization Document
(EAD), and "advance parole" in case you want to travel outside the United States and
re-enter before getting your green card. "

" Second, when you enter US, you need I-94, stamped passport, EAD(what is that), and
then after married do we call local INS office to get appt. for AOS?"

Section 2.0...THE K1/K2 VISA PROCESS - General Outline - also point 5 (See above)

More details in section 6.3

"6.3)...So where do we send the Adjustment of Status application package?
A..This depends on where you are. In a few locations, you may still be able to take
these applications to a local office in person, and maybe even be processed for the
EAD while you are there. However, you probably will have to submit by mail, to a
local or district INS office...." (it continues from there...
http://www.k1faq.com/#6.3)

"Is advanced parole to allow him to go back to ENgland if emergency arises?"

Section 2.0...THE K1/K2 VISA PROCESS - General Outline - point 5 (See above
again....)

Section 6.7 "6.7)...Can my spouse leave the United States, and then re-enter, before
receiving the Green Card (conditional permanent residency)?
B...The spouse cannot re-enter the US unless they have "advance parole" authorization
(application form I-131). Advance parole allows you to re-enter the US before
approval of Adjustment of Status. Without advance parole approval, leaving the
United States is considered an abandonment of your application for Adjustment of
Status. Without advance parole approval, the INS will consider you an intending
immigrant without a valid visa, and you will be denied entry. If you do not apply
for advance parole when you file for Adjustment of Status, contact your local INS
office to find out how long it takes them to issue Advance Parole. Altho advance
parole is supposed to be issued to anyone who wants it for any reason at all, some
local INS offices may take weeks or months, and may require proof of a serious
emergency. " (etc.)

Now - As far as I can tell, the answers to her questions were contained in a general
outline in 5 lines of text near the top of the FAQ. More details were given in
section 6, titled "After Marriage - Adjustment of Status"

I do not think it unreasonable to suggest she goes back and reads the FAQ. FAQ =
Frequently Asked Questions and is there just for that purpose - to answer Frequently
Asked Questions (or, in other words, to cover the basics.)

yes but saying you don't have a grip on this process, does anyone have a "grip" on
this process? If they did they wouldn't be looking for answers here.

Well maybe someone should add to that site the information about Canadian pardoned
records. You have to remember that anyone in Canada that has been charged and
convicted of a DUI or DWI has a criminal record, not like the US where it is
considered a travel violation. I found this by finally calling the RCMP and asking
them. I have been told and seen here people saying to say no to any criminal charges
if a pardon has been issued. Great advise if you are not the one with the record. Boy
wouldn't that look good to go for the interview and then be asked why a person
answered no, when indeed I was charged, and they have proof of it. Remember
information is shared to the US government. I think the FAQ site needs a link to have
people email new updates, information, or things that are not covered with in the
site. And there is many things that are not covered in the site. Another good one is
Health records for shots that people were given in Saskatchewan. Do you know that
Saskatchewan Government records are only kept for 5 years? So anything you had as a
child or 5 years ago, will not be found unless you have a record from that time it
was given. And Hospitals are no help either, since the cutbacks and forming new
hospital Zone, records have been misplaced and they do not know where to start to
look for them.

Lets help people here and not treat them like they incompetent people.

Just my 2 cents worth
