Default Airport Transfers - LAX & JFK

Hi there

Can anybody recommend safe, reliable & reasonably priced methods and/or companies to transport a family of 4 (including 2 young kids) with a quantity of suitcases consistent with a 5 week trip around the world to their accomodation in Beverly Hills (from LAX) and Manhattan (from JFK)?

Any other useful tips would be appreciated as we're led to believe that there are many, er, less than scrupulous operators out there!

Last time me and the Mrs were in NYC we splashed the cash and had a limo transport us from Newark to downtown Manhattan. Can't see us doing this this time though :-)

Thanks in advance

BD

Thumbs up Re: Airport Transfers - LAX & JFK

Believe it or not it is actually cheaper to take a limo from JFK and Newark into Manhatten than it is to take a taxi! (New Jersey taxis taking passengers into New York can't pick up passengers there and have to return to NJ empty, so the fares reflect this).

As far as I'm aware, child car seats are not provided in taxis and private limos.

You can get a decent sized large Lincoln Town Car (a standard 'sedan' with the private car companies) from JFK and Newark to anywhere in Manhatten for $44 + tolls + tip (15% -20%) but for evening hours it's a little bit more. You would need to pay a bit more for a larger limo and again it costs more for a stretch limo obviously, or you could book a 'minivan' eg. Chrysler Voyager aka Town & Country to take all your cases.

I actually prefer Carmel Car service (one of the biggest) but there is 'Dial 7' too which is a few $ more - they're both owned by the same parent company (Tel Aviv car service). You can book a car online (probably best if you state # of passengers and suitcases so they know which size car is best) but they always have drivers waiting around the perimeter of the airport so you could just call from the courtesy phones when you arrive at JFK - there are coupons to get a further $5 or $6 dollars discount.

Try these:

http://www.carmelcarservice.com

http://www.dial7.com

For other ground transportation options from the NY area aiports you will find it on the the operator of them - the Port Authority's website:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jgrtfram.htm

As for LAX - I have no idea but a good place to start would be to go to the main airport site for LAX and similarly to the above link, just look up the transportation options to get to and from the airport.

Good Luck!
Where will you be staying in NYC?
