Default Advice from North Caroliners

We are looking at places in the Richmond County area of NC. In particular a ML listing for Rockingham, NC.

Is anyone familiar with this area of NC to advise on the type of lifestyle there, etc.

Its where the raceway is, its close to Charlotte, I pass it on my way to Charlotte but have never stopped there. I can tell you one thing, it will be a shock to the system after moving from NYC, although you will fit right at home with the conservative values of NC.

I haven't been there but judging by its location within NC and its proximity to SC, I'd say it's a very quiet, podunk town. If you want to take things slow, that's your place.

This site might help you get a feel for Rockingham:

If you're thinking about retiring here, you probably want to consider the distance to good hospitals.

PS: I consider myself an honorary North Carolinian.

Thanks. This is a very good source as well.

http://www.carolinaliving.com/default1.asp

We've done our homework, so to speak, and have decided on NC as opposed to SC although SC is more generous regarding taxes to seniors.

Actually I would prefer the Tyron area but Jim wants to be away from the mountains. Can't convince the Canuck that winters in the foothills of the mountains in NC are the same as a Canadian winter in the Rockies.

Can't believe you're not retiring down here!!

Funnily enough, NC is where many Floridian natives retire to...go figure.

A friend of mine, she's retiring soon, one of the few born here in town, is doing her snowbird thing in Nova Scotia - she adores it there

I love the west coast of Florida around Naples area. But hubby, the Canuck, dislikes Florida with a passion.
