Advice - New Cell Phone Contract after 10 years

Hi all,

It has been 10 years (ish) since I signed up to AT & T, and now my wife and I have moved, the signal is not great so we are considering Verizon (only realistic choice). I would like some advice... please.

A family plan (2 lines) for unlimited data and chat is $80 each per month plus tax. Is that a reasonable rate? My current AT and T plan is not comparable since, as mentioned, it was grandfathered in 10 years ago.

Do people really send $160/month plus tax on cell service?

Thanks,

H

Have you looked at Google's Project Fi?

As lizzyq mentions, Project Fi are good. I swapped recently.

I was on Verizon, paying $180 a month for my wife and i.

Swapped to Project Fi, now paying just short of $100 for two lines and we use around 5gb of data a month. Also includes your data usage at the usual rates whilst roaming abroad and much cheaper call costs. which is useful for me due to work travel, and when we visit the UK.

If you decide on it, PM me and i'll refer you a link, we both get $25 :D

If you don't value the highest of speeds, look at some of the MVNOs - Verizon just launched one pretty recently that uses their towers. Check out Visible.

Thank you, all. Project Fi I will explore, and it looks like Verizon plan is ball park (!).. wow!

I'd personally look at an MVNO that leverages Verizon's network, but yes, that cost is indicative of what you'll see for unlimited everything with ATT or VZ

Personally I have Verizon through work and use Xfinity Mobile ($45 a month for unlimited everything) for my personal plan. Both run on VZ's network and the speeds are almost always comparable (In Houston & Chicago, can't comment for elsewhere)

Project Fi requires you to use one of about 5 compatible phones and uses T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular's networks. If only Verizon works well where you live it's not going to be the best choice.

My last months bill on project fi for 2 phones was less than $40 as they gave discounts to states affected by the couple hurricanes that came through us.

T-Mobile One.
Four lines, unlimited data globally. $140 per month. Absolutely blessing when travelling back to the UK, and also helps us out in the US where our boys seem to somehow use over 30GB each per month each!?

Think our old AT&T bill was near that for one line :(

Edit: Looks like you also now get Netflix thrown in. :)
