If he is willing to go back to work, why doesn't me try to join any of the US law firms that have offices in London. If he is hired, he might be able to be transferred to their stateside offices and can go from there.

He was a barrister, Irish I think ...talked a lot ..
It will come to me eventually ...

I think he was re-training

It came to me ... it was DUNCS ..back in 2005

If the OP looks back thru his post ..may be worthwhile
