Advice on keeping UK address whilst away
Hi there. I am moving to North Carolina in January just for three years because of my husband's work. We are renting out our UK house during this time and so I was wondering, should I keep my UK bank and credit card addresses as is (ie my current house address that I will be renting out) and just re-direct all my post via Royal mail to my US address once known? Alternatively, should I change the addresses of the UK bank/credit cards I want to keep to an alternative UK address (my parents said I could use their home UK address)? Then I would still get mail re-direction to sweep up any other post. I can't find any good advice on line- just general advice on mail re-direction.
Thanks for any help on this!

If the move to the US is temporary do not change your address to your US address, it will likely result in the forced closure of all your UK bank accounts.

Thanks very much for your quick reply. That helps, but does it matter what U.K. address I hold? Would there potentially be conflict with credit ratings etc if I continue to use my normal U.K. address alongside new tenants and just get my mail redirected to the US?Should I change my credit card etc addresses to that of an agreeable family member in the U.K. for the period we are away?

Do whatever you feel comfortable with, since everything else is just an end-run around your having to inform UK banks that you are living in the US. Credit reports can maintain several families at the same address, but of course if the renter fails to pay their bills then being associated with them at the same address will probably not do you any good.
Be aware of the FBAR reporting requirements if you maintain foreign bank accounts when filing US tax returns.

I agree with the advice to continue with a UK address if your US stay is only temporary. I don't think the underlined part is accurate. Many of us have had no problem at all maintaining UK bank accounts and credit cards with a US address. It seems to vary from bank to bank.

That's simply not true. It depends on the bank. First Direct and Halifax have allowed me to keep a UK current account and credit card respectively with a US address.

I think everyone has taken leave of their English language skills. Last time I checked, 'likely' leaves room for different experiences.
YMMV.
It simply wasn't a declarative.

Also consider that you can only do Royal Mail redirection for a maximum of 12 months.

OP would only get all their bank accounts closed if all the banks they deal with don't accept customers moving to the US. As many if not most UK banks do allow this, I feel your use of "likely" was hyperbolic to the point of inaccuracy.
