Advice on getting a cat from Heathrow to US West coast?

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend an airline which will let us fly our cat from London Heathrow to either Portland Oregon or Seattle Washington? We want to get a direct flight. Ideally it will be the same flight as the one we are on ourselves.

I was thinking to use BA but am having a lot of trouble getting a straight answer about exactly how to go about doing this...

Any advice would be appreciated!

There are lots of threads on this. Delta or United will let you take him or her in the cabin with you.

It's a long way to the west coast, so I'd recommend breaking the journey.

Here are a couple of post about our experience to get you started:

The only direct flight to Seattle from London is with B.A. I'm pretty sure there isn't a direct flight from London to Portland, could be wrong though.

Wow, BA is the only direct flight provider? Well, that makes things simple then, though not easy. I think this particular cat will just sleep through the flying time but not enjoy takeoff and landing, so I want to keep those to a minimum. Our plan is to arrive at Seattle airport and then drive down to Eugene. I've driven from NY to Seattle with a cat before, it's not too difficult, and it'll be a fairly short drive (4-5 hours).

I've been going in circles on the BA website, all their info seems designed for people flying IN to the UK, and even when I sent an email I was directed to World Cargo whose site basically said "if you don't already have an account with us, get an agent". So I guess we'll get an agent...

We flew 16 dogs from the UK to Alaska recently, and our original plan had been to fly them from London to Seattle, using BA.

There are several pet shipping agents out there, we have used Airpets, based very close to Heathrow several times and would wholeheartedly recommend them.

We have no connection with Airpets except as satisfied customers etc....

Hi Snodog,

Your original plan was to fly them to seattle? What did you end up doing?

Yup... but they ended up having to put them on a plane instead.

Are dogs different from magic reindeer then?

We ended up flying them with Continental Airlines from LHR to Newark, overnight there, flew Newark to Anchorage via Seattle - except the 4 that ended up flying Newark/Houston/Seattle/Anchorage.
