Adopt a Granny

Adopt a Granny
Hello everyone. I have really been considering lately on trying to adopt a Grandmother for my two young children. My mother lives in Cornwall and we have not seen her since 2003. My father died when I was 8, and both my husband's parents have also died. So, I would like my children to have an older woman (granndmother & grandad) in their lives. I have heard from someone in my moms club that when she was younger the retirement homes had a program where you could adopt one, and take them to run their errands and to Dr's appointments. If anyone has and info on this subject please let me know. thanks so much

You can have mine! She is a cantankerous old bat who I haven't spoke to for 3 years... but you are welcome to her!
Out of interest how does your mum feel about having someone act as grandmother?

I'm sure my Mother will try and kick up a stink. She seems to love having rows with everyone. To be frank, I really don't care how she feels about it, since she hasn't been there for me or my children. I talk to my Mother but it is a very tough relationship and one sided as she is very selfish. At the end of the day, you can't may someone care and she doesn't.

It was a big time a few years ago. You might want to call a nursing home close to home and discuss this with their administrator or have a look at some of the senior centers close to home. I know so many elderly people whose family have moved so far that they don't get to see their children and grandchildren and would love to be pampered by someone and in turn shower them with their love.

We've kind of adopted our neighbours as grandparents - or maybe they've adopted us?
