Default Absolute Newbie curiousity!

Hi,

This is my first post as I have just come across this site and there seems to be a wealth of knowledge about here!

My situation is that I live in Northern Ireland (have both a British and Irish passport), I work in the IT industry, and was wondering how difficult it would be for me to move to the USA?

I have an Hons Degree (and numerous other smaller qualifications) and am in my early 20's.

Could anyone please let me know the basics of moving to the USA? All the talk of visas is quite confusing at the minute, so if possibly could things be explained in the most simple way. Some questions I have are:

- Do I need to have a job offer before I am allowed to move? Or will a certain amount of money in the bank be acceptable?
- Do I need a green card? Or is there some sort of long term visa?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Many Thanks.

Anyway, welcome to BE....but based on work, don't plan on moving anytime soon. H1B opens in a couple days, will be filled by end of, so not mch chance of finding an employer to sponsor till next year.

Best bet would be working for a place for a year that has offices in the US for a transfer, but IT people are dime a dozen so you'd really need niche skills or specialist internal skills that the company would need to bother with the cost and hassle.

My thoughts exactly...we could have gone down that route if necessary...but the L1 did it for us.
