Default about that firefox.....

So i figured, whats all the fuss about and ive downloaded it..........

Which things have u added, its a good idea, adding things on to suit your personal taste, although half the add ons, their explanations for what they do are beyond me.

I like having my favourites on their own bar!

Im looking at the add ons and am not sure which others I'd like, theres so many!

Is there a good videoconferencing add on, so I can use my webcam, like an MSN messenger? All I saw was a chat one, and it doesnt have webcam...

Also, if i like it, could i just delete IE and keep just the messenger, so I know when my familiy's online?

I personally didn't like it - i think IE is slicker, but its always good to have other competition in the market to get MS to improve their stuff

Welcome to the dark side...

Yes there is a ton of extensions for Firefox.
My recommendations:

BB Code:
http://jedbrown.net/mozilla/extensions/#BBCode
(useful on forums)

WebMail Compose:
http://jedbrown.net/mozilla/extensions/#WebMailCompose
(if you use Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo - when you click on a mailto link the webmail thing fires up instead)

Popup alt attribute:
http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/_popupalt.html.en
(when you hover over an image you see a description.)

BugMeNot:
http://extensions.roachfiend.com/index.php
(When you go to read an online news article that requires registration before viewing - this will find a username/password for you to use)

Show image:
http://showimage.mozdev.org/
(If there is a broken image on the page, Instead of having to reload a page just right click)

VERY RECOMMENDED:
Mozilla Calendar:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/

Webcam chat - there isn't an extension with Firefox, but there is Trillian http://www.trillian.cc/ and Skype: http://www.skype.com/

You can't delete Internet Explorer - best to have it sitting there gathering dust anyway because there are some sites out there that don't work with Mozilla/Firefox.

I'm sure there will be others out there with their favourite Firefox Extensions ?

I used to use it. There was a thing on the USCIS website about IE not being safe so I downloaded Firefox. Then I went to log into my profile on USCIS and got the message that the only thing acceptable was IE.

Firefox is great.
It's safer than IE,I never get any pop-ups.I haven't used IE in a long time,unless there's a website that's not firefox compatible.
And to top it all,you have a lot of extensions

Also second the recommendation for Trillian as your messenger client. It will connect simultaneously to MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC and provides a global buddy list. There's a new version out which is much better than it was before.

Cheers webbie for your recommendations!

appropriate name eh?!

When typing on this forum the cursor is too close to the last letter I typed, any addon to alter this?

There is a lot of dead links on mozillas site, shame.

Ive set up firefox on my wifes profile on XP too, the only annoying thing is it wont let me put a firefox icon on the taskbar/quicklaunch.

What theme do u have, ive got spheregnome which is pretty cool!

Don't think there is anything for this.

It works on the site but not if and when you go to log into your portfolio list. For us anal types that do that a few times a week it's a pain.

There is a "View in IE" extension:
http://ieview.mozdev.org/
So if you find a page that is not all browser compliant (bad design that) then just right-click and...

Errr...I couldn't never be bothered with that, it remembers my msc number, so I just check in on that, have to disable peerguardian first though, which I tend to forget....

But most handy extentions, spellbound, ftp, smoothscroll, tab scroller-I didn't like the other tab ones like TBE...Sage for rss feeds
BugmeNot is a must, then ieview is handy. Calendar is really nice...dictionary search is handy, as is translate and translation panel for Japanese...
Love Drag and Drop, that's really handy, as is Jump Link-so you can hit links in hotmail etc and it doesn't open them in a frame...
Copy plain text, that's handy for this place.
Teleflip- if your into sms, only works for US numbers which is a shame though, but it's free.
Listzilla for keeping upto date on the extentions...I haven't tried the bookmarks one, but that's handy, and stumbleupon is fun stuff...

I have it too, and I won't be going back to IE anytime soon, the tabbed browsing, popup blocking and adblocking is just too good. FF used to render some pages badly (not necessarily FF's faut) but now it's much better.

I also have a theme installed to make it look pretty. BugMeNot has proved very useful.

Aye, problem is, it's the websites, like image annotations, if done properly, work for FF, which follows the standard, but to work on IE, they have to be written differently, which doesn't follow set standards...
