8 weeks in and SSN finally arrived and now the kids have started school

I have the small seemingly insignificant piece of paper in front of me which all financial life depends on. At last. See previous posts for more of the story, suffice to say I am relieved.

Off to apply for a Virgin Atlantic (USA) black card now as I am hungry for additional miles (to bring family and friends back and forth) and tier points to get me into the lounge when flying on business!

Getting used to life in central Florida. Kids started elementary school last week, Kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grade. Certainly the 2nd and 3rd grade academically is seemingly up to the standard we had in the UK at this very early stage admittedly. We are relieved as we thought ours would be ahead having started school earlier in UK. Kids adapating to a whole different environment very well indeed, i am a proud father! I like this class size max of 18 but am sure it is not all going to be smooth and we have our eyes wide open, fingers crossed.

Good to hear you finally got your SSN! I think a lot of expats are surprised at the standard of education here in the US, we had the same thoughts as you, but were going the other way US to UK, we were worried our Son would be bored in class, he was actually almost 18 months behind:blink:

Obviosly this is just our experience, I know there are some States (SC being one) that the education is not up to UK standards in most areas.
