55 Alive

Just for the over 50s this:

AARP http://www.aarp.org/
Do an over 50s driving course ..which is really boring
and I have too do 2 afternoons next week doing it ..
the course cost $10 each ...BUT ..
it gives us about a $100 a year discount thru our insurance company for 3 years .. then you have to do the course again.. A pain... but worth it ..
The membership of AARP is only $12.50 and have lots of other benefits
worth looking at if you are over 50 ...

My in-laws joined the AARP as soon as they became eligible. I'm sure the main draw was for the associated discounts like the one Ray mentions.

Got to admit to being a member myself.
Although I moved from Maryland to Connecticut and around the same time paid off the HP !! on one of our vans (the other we already owned) my premiums with AARP (through The Hartford) went from $2,400 to $1,100 a year.
Main reason is because they only insure people over 50 they cut out subsidising all of the younger drivers who obviously have a higher accident/claims record.
If you know what I mean.

Ray- I believe they waive the 12.50 for geezers over 70, so soon you can save a bit more.
