Default 2nd L1 Visa & Driving License

Hi,

I have the following issue/scenario that I am trying to work out...

I was in CA for 5 years on a L1 visa, upon expiry I have moved back to the UK for 12 months. I should be moving back on a new visa shortly but possibly to a new state. My question is about my expired CA driving license:

If I go back to CA do I have to re-take both tests?
Or
Can I just renew my license?

I do not have a UK driving license and as mentioned above, I might be going to another state, so not sure how this impacts getting a license there (Texas).
The visa & moving is all with the same company.

Cheers
Richard

Are you moving back with the same company? Are they getting you a GC?
Sorry not sure about the car stuff but I thought you'd have a GC by now.

Yes, it is with the same company.
A green card is in progress but my priority date has not become current yet.

It varies by state but some licenses once they expire have a set period within which you can renew just by going to the DMV and getting a new one. Beyond that date you have to start from scratch retake tests etc.

Assuming your license was linked to your L1 it expired when your visa expired and you left the country and has potentially been expired for 12 months which is probably outside most states renewal rules.

Bored, looked it up.

CA you have 90 days after expiry to renew a CA license.

TX you have two years after expiry to renew a TX license.

To swap an out of state license for a TX one it must be unexpired.

Looks like you are retaking tests either way.
