A friend of mine just bought a (power) converter and of course a plug adapter for her sewing machine when she moved from Scotland to the US. Worked fine, she said.

Andy, c'mon.... lighten up a bit. I don't think it's wise to wire against code and without training, but hey, I also don't think it's likely to kill you or get you sued. There is a middle ground.

the converters i got have all the sockets in them so you don't need converters - sorry not trying to show off or anything! They are step up and down so they will work on US stuff in the UK if and when we go back
