I am spending much less on food in general here than I did when we first arrived over 5 years ago. OK, back home you can go to a supermarket (Asda or Tesco for example) and get all your shopping for the week in one go and I haven't found a supermarket here where you can do the whole lot in one shop AND get good prices for fruit and veg, meat AND other groceries. But once you get over this fact and start to shop like the locals do and split your shopping up between different stores, you start to save money. I get my general groceries from one store and my fruit and veg from another. I will get meat from different places and we also have a Pepperidge Farm discount shop locally.

And other shopping, in general, I am managing to spend less than we did in the beginning. If you want to get your prices down to what they were in the UK then you have to change your shopping habits of when and how you do your shopping for everything, including clothes.
But is it cheaper when you take into account the cost of gas driving to and from all these stores? Plus, the additional time taken to park and queue.

Also, don't forget about your local farmers market on "Pick Your Own" farm. The produce should be generally fresher than what's found in the grocery stores.

I think one of Ray's top 10 reasons for loving America should have been.....

Mandatory breast implants for all women over 40.

I get all my produce from the farmer's market. You have to find a good one as some will price gouge.

It's all 100% organic, cheaper, fresher, and tastier. Plus I've gotten to know the little old lady that grows it all.

You think he's got a thing for silicon? Must be a generational thing - remember those 50s/60s bras that turned women's chests into WMDs?

I told you already. Really, you must do something about your short-term memory old boy.

Also, I provide all my own support - it's called pectoral muscle.

To be fair, the Dabs price above includes VAT. Its only 169 Pounds ex VAT.

But adding 6% to Newegg's price gives you $299 or 160 Pounds - which shows you one of the major reasons of the price difference: UK Taxes!!

Oh god, that's all I need. I will remain a mystery. I did get this from a secret admirer though, which beautifully expresses my personality.

I'm suddenly reminded just how much the English moan!

When it was decided that my US wife didn't want to live in England any more and wanted to move back to Los Angeles, I wasn't too thrilled about it. The first few months I was here I did nothing but bitch about the place, like so many on this forum are still doing after several years. But at some point you've got to realise than constantly moaning about a place isn't going to change it or improve you're chances of succeeding.

It's easy to come up with a list of reasons why America is the home of the devil, but I'm tired of hearing it. This is my home now and I intend to make it work for me. If others have neither the will or ability to do likewise then that's their right, but don't come crying to me about it.
