I suspect some error in the maths here "Oregon's beer tax is currently $2.60 per 31-gallon barrel, which is fourth lowest in the nation. HB-2461, also sponsored by Representatives Ben Cannon (D-Portland) and Michael Dembrow (D-Portland), would set the new "prevention, treatment and recovery tax" at $49.61 per 31-gallon barrel, easily the highest in the nation. The current tax is about 0.79 cents per 12-ounce glass of beer, or about 4.7 cents a six-pack. The new tax would be about 15 cents per 12-ounce glass of beer and 90 cents a six-pack. " $2.60 / 100 = $0.026 x 1900 = $49.40 so a trifle over 1900% |

The increase is in the tax not in the price of beer.
I would expect better numeracy and proof-reading (including the headlines) from someone calling themselves the "Business Pundit" |
