Why would a non citizen not have a SSN? Unless they are not living / working in the USA, although there may be other situations I'm not aware of.

I know prior to moving to the USA, my wife (living in the USA) wanted to file jointly, which would require me getting an ITIN. I declined since I didn't believe it was worth it for us, so she filed on her own whilst I continued with UK taxes. As soon as I moved to the USA, I was issued with a SSN, and we could file jointly.

We received the stimulus money in our bank account, which helped cover our living expenses whilst I was unemployed (FL unemployment benefit sucks).

Why would a non citizen not have a SSN?
If you aren't work authorized (Such as an H4 visa holder)

For those who haven’t received the $1,200 yet, the IRS require your bank details by midday tomorrow 13 May.

Seems a little disorganized the way they set it up. The IRS website never works for me, if a check shows up, it will be a good surprise, if not, nothing lost really.

Nothing lost? You are entitled to it...surely $1,200 USD would mean a lot to you.

Bad wording on my part, yes it would help greatly.

We didn’t get ours yet - supposedly, those of us getting a paper check in the US mail may be waiting a bit longer.

Isn't there a chance he falls in to the group of people married to someone with no SSN so doesn't qualify? Or does that only apply to spouses over the other border?

My wife also has no ITIN and she isn't under any obligation to the IRS so I file separately only my income.

From the article seems the problem is for those who file jointly and the spouse has an ITIN.

But I dunno, the US Gov't even seems confused at times over this whole thing..ha ha

IRS has my 2018 return, and should have my 2019 return as it was mailed earlier in the year, so they have my address.

there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the stimulus cheques. my girlfriend got hers the day after she filed with HR website. I got mine last week after filling taxes with turbo. basically I waited a month and a half.

I didn't imply he wasn't a USC, I was just referring to the link in post #59 to a story that claimed that USC married to a spouse that doesn't have an SSN were not getting the money. But as he's since pointed out that he files separately it probably isn't the issue here.

Curious why JSmith is entitled to the stimulus check? Yes, he is a USC, however, he is not a resident of the US but a resident of Canada.

I wonder if hubby is going to be money from Ontario since he is a Canadian citizen, pays taxes to the Canadian government, and last resided in Ontario.

USCs whether residents or not are entitled to the money.

I have no idea if Ontario are sending out cheques unless you are out of work etc.
