Default "painless" SSN application experience

Cathy and I went to apply for her social security number today (Columbus GA office), and after 5 minutes in line, we were called to the window. She showed her green card and passport, watched as her info was keyed in to the system, and signed the application. She was then given a receipt of application and told her card should be received in 10 days or less. Amazingly simple and efficient. 10 minutes and out.
